Tweet Storm Unlocks New Avengers 2 Trailer!

Marvel sure does know how to run the hype machine.  We're less than two months until the release of Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Marvel wants to make sure trailer number 3 makes a big splash.  In fact, they're so confident in the existing hype that they locked the trailer until enough people tweeted #AvengersAssemble.

It's not necessarily the biggest gamble, considering Age of Ultron will be one of the biggest movies of 2015, but it's definitely a stunt, nonetheless.  A smart stunt that ensures #AvengersAssemble is trending before the trailer is even view-able.  The trailers are usually already trending topics after they are released, so this may cause it to dominate many of the other topics so far today (one of which is #shield, but that might be 50% NVIDIA today).

The target number was not specifically mentioned, but with the help of Topsy and some algebra, it looks like the target is around 80 thousand tweets.  Maybe they are including retweets and the target is 100 thousand.  Either way, the Marvel loving Twitterverse made short work of the goal, with the tweets coming in at a rate of over 20 thousand an hour this morning, filling the total quota in less than 6 hours.  Everyone must have been real excited to watch the trailer.

So, here it is!  Was it worth the hype?  Let me know in the comments!

Avenger: Age of Ultron will hit theaters May 1st, 2015. It is directed by Joss Whedon, and featuring Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark / Iron Man, Chris Evans as Steve Rogers / Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner / The Hulk, Scarlet Johansson as Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton / Hawkeye, Aaron Taylor Johnson as Pietro Maximoff / Quicksilver, Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch, James Spader as Ultron, Samuel Jackson as Nick Fury, among many others.
