Star Wars Rebels Extended Trailer

We recently took a full look at all the character details of the upcoming Star Wars: Rebels.  Not many plot details about the show was known, outside of some character origins and general synopsis (the formation of the rebellion), but now we finally have our first full trailer for the show.

Right off the bat, the show continues on (and expands) the look of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.  It's been rumored there would be some familiar character appearances, such as Obi-Wan Kenobi, who is confirmed immediately when the trailer starts.  Obi-Wan has sent out a message, presumably to all Jedi (and friends of the Jedi) to explain the fall of the Jedi Order and the Republic.

It's very reassuring to see a familiar face.  The series will clearly focus on brand new characters, but maybe this means we can expect some more cameos or small parts from some classic heroes.  The series is intended to bridge the gap between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope (as is not-so-subtly stated by Obi-Wan), so there's room for all sorts of characters to pop up.

The trailer shows a darker side of the show that we haven't been able to see yet from any of the promotional material, which is very encouraging, considering many concerns over the show being more kiddy and airing on Disney XD.  A predominant use of the Imperial March and lots of familiar Imperial imagery (Tie Fighters, Stormtroopers, and Star Destroyers, to name a few).

The tone definitely feels bleak, but there is clearly a glimmer of hope (which leads in to A New Hope, presumably).  Although Jedi may not be nearly so predominant in this show as they were for all Star Wars properties prior to Order 66 in Revenge of the Sith, they are still at the core of the universe, with the plot seeming to focus very much on the exiled Jedi, Kanan, and his new apprentice, Ezra.

I was already hopeful for this show, but the new trailer definitely has by buying in.  It doesn't premier until October, so there's a few months to go, but at least we have something to be positive about until the show finally airs.
