First Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies Trailer Has Arrived

If you've been reading the site for a while, you're probably already familiar with my views on The Hobbit trilogy. Peter Jackson has gone full George Lucas (right down to the absurd prequel trilogy), and disappointed me in many ways.

The original LOTR trilogy veered dramatically from the source material and butchered many key moments, but it wasn't so bad that I was unable to watch it. Fast forward to The Hobbit, Peter Jackson has proven that he missed the point of the books entirely and was far more focused on cramming as much (unimpressive) visual spectacle into each film as possible. This addiction proved to be so strong that he broke Ian McKellen and Viggo Mortensen didn't want anything to do with The Hobbit trilogy, for good reason.

Nonetheless, I'm a sucker and will go see The Battle of the Fiver Armies.  I'm just officially a cynic.  I was disappointed with The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, but I had faith that Jackson would turn it around with The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.  Not only did he not turn it around, but he went full bore in a direction that made the movie almost completely unrecognizable to me.  He reached a point where it didn't only not resemble the book it was based on, but it didn't even tonally (or structurally, or cohesively) fit into the original LOTR trilogy.

I'm trying a new strategy with this final installment.  I'm going in without having any pomposity. If I expect this movie to be the most absurd ridiculous and offensive adaptation I've seen in recent years, then maybe Peter Jackson won't let me down for once.

Lets be honest though, I'm just biding my time until the entire series can be rebooted as a TV show for HBO.  That's the only proper format to tell these stories anyway.

So check the trailer out.  I haven't even watched it yet, I'm just uploaded it out of obligation.  I hope it's not a Rick Roll or something.
