Official Star Wars Casting Announced!

4/29/2014 Unknown 0 Comments

Star Wars official casting is finally available!  No characters yet, but we have list with some familiar (and some surprising) names.  The Original Trilogy cast is confirmed to return, so we know who they are, but we can only guess for the others.

Notably missing are Billy D. Williams and Temuera Morrison, which means there is likely no Lando or Boba Fett, but who knows what will end up in this movie.

John Boyega (Attack the Block): The easy thing is to assume he's Lando's son (as was rumored), but that's because Lando's the only non-white character in the galaxy after Return of the Jedi.

Daisy Ridley (various TV shows.):  She looks like a Skywalker or Solo child

Adam Driver (Girls.):  He has long been rumored as a villain for Star Wars

Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis.):  Supposedly his role is "major," but no hint as to what it is)

Andy Serkis (you know his name): Mo-cap hero!

Domhnall Gleeson (Harry Potter): He also looks like a Skywalker or Solo child

Max von Sydow (Dune/everything since 1949): Perfect addition to Star Wars.  No clue om role, but it'll be good.

Harrison Ford: Han Solo

Carrie Fisher: Princess Leia

Mark Hamill: Luke Skywalker

Anthony Daniels: C-3PO

Peter Mayhew: Chewbacca

Kenny Baker: R2-D2

JJ Abrams: Director/Writer (Star Trek, Lost, Super 8, Mission Impossible 3)
Lawrence Kasdan: Writer (returning from Episodes V and VI)
Kathleen Kennedy: Producer (all sorts of Spielberg movies)
Bryan Burke (just about everyting Abrams has worked on)
John Williams: Original Soundtrack

Release Date  December 18, 2015

Director J.J. Abrams official statement is:
We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud.

It's nice to finally have some official casting confirmation.  I can't wait to start getting promotional details for this movie!  Character descriptions are likely to come next.  There were some big rumors that announcements are coming on Star Wars Day--May 4th, so hopefully we won't have long to wait.

The only real big name dropped outside of the returning cast is Andy Serkis.  Hopefully we'll get to see some true to form motion capture work from him.  Outside of that, the cast is relatively unknown, so it looks like I'll be hitting up IMDB to see what I can get for this cast on Netflix.
